The ageing process is associated with a loss of volume in the skin, dehydration and the appearance of deep lines that are permanently visible on the face.
Dermal fillers are injected under the skin and work by providing gentle volumising and contouring, creating a naturally attractive effect to smooth out and fill lines and wrinkles.
Why should I consider dermal fillers?
As we age, our skin’s hyaluronic acid content, which is important for hydration and water retention, decreases. This means our skin becomes drier and loses plumpness. Dermal fillers effectively replace the missing hyaluronic acid and reduce the appearance of deeper lines, folds and ageing skin to produce a more youthful appearance.
This treatment replaces lost volume in the skin and replenishes your skin’s natural hyaluronic acid content. At The Smile Practice we inject small quantities of dermal filler into specifically targeted areas to bring fullness back to your facial features. The treatment enhances contours and reduces the appearance of lines and folds for a smoother, more youthful complexion.
Dermal fillers are predominantly used on areas in the lower face, but can be used in conjunction with Botox, which tends to be used on the upper facial areas.

Juvederm and Restylane
Juvederm® and Restylane® are the dermal fillers we use at the Smile Practice in Didcot and Oxford. They are popular due to their long-term safety and excellent results. These fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, supplementing your own body’s lack of it due to the ageing process. Hyaluronic acid will plump-up or raise the skin and ‘fill in’ the area being treated. Essentially it enhances your natural looks by restoring your skin’s volume, creating softness and revitalising your appearance.
We can also use dermal fillers to plump up your lips giving them a healthier and fuller appearance.
Benefits of dermal fillers
As we get older, our skin loses elasticity and volume to due decreased levels of hyaluronic acid, elastin and collagen. This causes deeper lines and folds to develop in the lower face and loss of plumpness in the cheeks, lips and chin. Dermal fillers restore the lost volume, re-contour and re-define specific areas and replace your youthful proportions.
Dermal fillers bring water to the skin’s surface for a supple, fresh look that will make you feel rejuvenated and revitalised as you enjoy your smoother, younger looking complexion.
How long will I have to wait to see results?
Dermal fillers provide results immediately and there is very little downtime involved. You might experience occasional redness and swelling, but this will go down within a couple of hours.
